Fans of zombifying mushrooms and post-apocalyptic adventures, get out your calendars because HBO has just officially announced the release date of the season 2 of The Last of Us which will be for April 2025!
As a huge fan of the first season (and I know I'm not the only one), this new trailer blows my mind. And despite what some grumpy people may have said on social media, I found that Bella Ramsey perfectly embodied the character of Ellie.
This new plot will take place 5 years after the events of season 1 still at the helm are Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, who brilliantly adapted the video game for the small screen during the first season. And this time, we are promised 7 episodes which will explore the growing tensions between Joel and Ellie. The official synopsis indicates that they will mostly be “drawn into conflict with each other, in a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”. Just reading this makes me tense!!
For newcomers to this universe, remember that the series takes place 20 years after an epidemic caused by a mutant fungus (Cordyceps) transformed a large part of humanity into zombies (but zombies are super ugly). The world then fragmented into totalitarian quarantine zones and independent colonies, where a thriving black market and a rebel militia, the Fireflies, made life difficult for survivors.
Of course, Pedro Pascal And Bella Ramsey reprise their respective roles of Joel and Ellie but the big news is the arrival of promising new characters, namely:
- Kaitlyn Dever who will play Abby, a central character for this season
- Isabela Merced who will play Dina
- Young Mazino who will take the role of Jesse
- Catherine O'Hara (Schitt's Creek) who will make a special appearance
- and Jeffrey Wright who will play Isaac Dixon
The first season had already set the bar very high, winning no less than 8 Emmy Awards and Pedro Pascal is not left out since he won the SAG Award for best actor in a drama series.
The series will be broadcast simultaneously on HBO and Max and even if 7 episodes may not seem like much compared to the ten of the first season, if the quality is there, I much prefer that to an artificially extended season.
While waiting for April 2025, I advise you to rewatch the first season. Not only because it is exceptional, but also because certain details will probably take on a whole new dimension in light of what awaits us in season 2.
And video game fans already know that this new season risks taking unexpected turns. As for the others… prepare for surprises!!
