This evening, I would like to talk to you about a series that has just captivated me during its ten episodes. It’s called The Day of the Jackalit’s available on Prime Video, and it’s one of those rare nuggets that manages to reinvent a literary classic, while infusing it with a modernity and psychological depth that I really appreciated.

Besides, even if it was originally a series of books, at the time I mainly enjoyed the DVD with Bruce Willis and Richard Gere. DVD that I still have to have, by the way… And so, I was happy to see this series arrive on Amazon Prime.

At the heart of this adaptation is therefore a confrontation between 2 complex characters. On the one hand, we have Eddie Redmayne who embodies the Jackal with surgical precision. He is a methodical assassin whose every mission is orchestrated down to the smallest detail. And on the other, Lashana Lynch plays Bianca, a determined MI6 agent who will stop at nothing to track down her prey.


What I particularly liked was the way the series explored the duality of these two characters. The Jackal is not just a soulless killer… he is also a man deeply attached to his wife and son, creating a striking contrast between his professional coldness and his human side. There really is a Dexter side to this series. We know that he is evil incarnate but we become attached to him. Bianca, for her part, logically embodies good but her quest for justice will lead her down morally ambiguous paths. Ultimately, the two characters have a lot in common.

The direction is top notch, there is excellent control of the rhythm and the action sequences kept me in suspense. There are also more intimate moments that allow us to breathe while deepening the psychology of the characters and each episode is constructed like a game of chess where the slightest error can prove fatal. In short, I was tight as a thong throughout this season.

The interpretation ofEddie Redmayne du Jackal is also a real tour de force. He juggles between different identities with disconcerting ease and in front of him, Lashana Lynch manages to impose himself quite naturally, which makes their confrontation very electrifying. We like both. We hate both.

So, of course, I have to warn you: once you start the series, it will be practically impossible to stop. We are kept in constant tension, which pushes us to chain episodes together. At least, that’s what I did because each revelation leads to another, and each twist and turn knocks us off our chairs. And if like me, you were won over by this first season, know that a season 2 has already been confirmed. I’m eager to !!!

In short, The Day of the Jackal is, in my eyes, much more than a simple spy thriller like Jack Ryan for example (which I also love, that said). It is truly a captivating reflection on human nature, served up by remarkable performances and incredible direction. So, if you like intelligent series, where there is action but also depth, don’t miss it!
