This difference in behavior was due to a bug in system pilots that managed sensitivity values ​​between the two modes differently.

Suddenly, a talented developer named E. Voirin (alias Oerg866) looked at this puzzle by meticulously studying the code of pilots VMOUSE.VXD And Msmouse.vxd And after having disassembled these files, he created a corrective that finally harmonizes the behavior of the mouse.

The principle is brilliant in its simplicity. The patch modifies the default values ​​used during the initialization of the mouse, whether under Windows or in back mode. More precisely :

  1. It adjusts the profile tables in Msmouse.vxd To obtain a more consistent acceleration
  2. He intelligently doubles the basic values ​​in back mode to compensate for the speed difference
  3. It even allows you to force a 200 Hz refreshment rate on PS/2 mice (except under Windows Me, a little too tight memory level)

And unlike the bidouilles of the time which often required a doctorate in system engineering, the installation is ultra simple:

Under Windows 98se/Me, just run it via Mousefix or by double-clicking on it. And you can also run it by specifying a Windows system directory anywhere to patcher the files.
