Hey the audiophiles, so like that, you have invested € 500 in a vinyl plate to have an “authentic” sound, but unfortunately, your overpriced sonos speakers are not compatible with this plate. So welcome to the club of schizophrenic audiophiles, torn between analog nostalgia and digital comfort.

Fortunately, a Raspberry Pi and a few lines of code will be able to help you resolve this technological existential crisis.

Swiss engineer, Max Fischer, has produced A complete guide to GitHub Who will explain to you step by step how to broadcast the sound of a vinyl plate (or any other RCA audio source) to a sound system using a Raspberry Pi. Vinyl to Sonos, without losing a crumb of this analog grain which makes you wriggler the eardrums and above all, it allows not to buy the owner Sonos Port solution which is the same much but much more expensive (around 450 €).

Based on an instructable guide, the author wanted to simplify the process by encapsulating everything in Docker containers and creating a preconfigured Raspberry Pi image. To do this too on your side, you will therefore need:

  • 1x audio interface Behringer U-Phone UFO202 (Affiliate link)
  • 1x Raspberry Pi (with USB Type-A)
  • 1x power adapter for Raspberry Pi
  • 1x microSD card (minimum 8GB)
  • 1x SD card reader/card adapter

This will allow you to convert an analog signal to a digital signal, which will then be stremed on the network using Darkice and Icecast and all for a budget of around 100 euros.

Install 11

Level set up, it’s easy:

  1. Download the image for Raspberry Pi here
  2. Decompress the image (requires double decompression)
  3. Install the tool Raspberry Pi Install on your computer
  4. Insert the microSD card into your computer
  5. Choose the personalized image in the Install
  6. Activate SSH and configure wifi (important: same network as sonos)
  7. Write the image on the SD card
  8. Insert the card into the Raspberry Pi
  9. Connect UFO202 to Raspberry Pi via USB
  10. Connect the vinyl plate to UFO202 RCA inputs
  11. Connect the power supply to Raspberry Pi
  12. Configure Tunein Radio and add stream in favorite
  13. Integrate Tunein into the Sonos application
  14. Select the vinyl stream in Sonos

With such an installation, you can then stream in MP3 320 kbps your old audio or good FM radio as older! And above all, Vald vinyl album in a few days & mldr;
