Notice to lovers of infiltration/strategy games inspired by the cult Commandos and taken up by the series Desperados :: The Stone of Madness is a new game of hide and seek that could please you. 🙂

This time, the context is completely different and rather original, since it happens in the 18th century, and that you will have to escape from a Spanish monastery which serves both in prison and asylum (crazy). There are murders with blood and people cry. Yes. It’s gloomy. 😨

Our 5 characters are therefore prisoners and a little crazy, their fears and their phobias being completely integrated into the gameplay (there is in one who is afraid of black for example, we will have to work out to light it permanently).

In isometric 3D, in view of above, we will direct our characters towards the exit or the next objective, while paying attention to lots of things: do not be seen by a supervisor, do not do a prohibited action (for example stealing fruit) in the eyes of all, etc.

The levels are designed as puzzles, you have to analyze the movements of the guards, the shadows / light zones, where the flames or the corpses are located (well yes certain characters are afraid of it 😬), in short, find the best approach and then, get down to it!

Each character has special capacities: one can push large blocks or lay planks to create new passages, the other, like a mouse, can sneak in small holes, while another can knock (or even kill) the guards & mldr; Be careful to hide the bodies then! And take the opportunity to search them. 😀

The controls are pretty well screwed up, despite the number of actions and characters to handle, we do not go too far. The interface is quite clear too, like to capture the field of vision of enemies or use this or that capacity. The clues (or interactive areas we will say) are sometimes difficult to identify, but we end up getting out of it.

The game offers a rather nice and intriguing scenario, even if unimportant in the end. The most interesting is the gameplay. The progression is well balanced, with small tips to unlock, it is well constructed!

Technically, you have to hang on the gloomy style, but the graphics, painted by hand (it seems) have a super interesting paw. The animations are a bit static and some display bugs (character who passes over a door while he is behind, for example) are a little task, but nothing serious.

In any case, the atmosphere is very well transcribed, and the interesting game! You have to hang on, that’s for sure. 😅 As I said in intro, it reminded me The Commandos series On which I had spent hours when I was a kid! If you like the style and universe, you can go for it. Do not forget to light your oil lamp. 🔥
